This has been an amazing summer on the Sacramento river. The Chinook salmon run has had us all going in circles between it, steelhead fishing and striped bass fly fishing. When the water drops 8 ft in two days there may be a surprise waiting in the clearing water. This giant buck steelhead found an Irideus steelhead fly to his liking. We are claiming this to be the  biggest Steelhead in California for 2012 unless a person has a picture to compare. Check out the adipose fin and the tail on this majestic fish . He is about 20 miles from from the steelie hens up river. Very happy this guy stopped by to say hello!A thick shouldered dense buck that was released.

A year with little rain opens a steelhead fly fishing winter wonderland for play. The sunlight is short this time of year in this canyon pictured in full midday glory. The journey to get here is not for the faint hearted. Know places like this exist with no foot prints.
