                         The Irideus GreenWater Fly Box~Timothy Horner Custom Lay out

The Tribute tube fly box is great for all large size steelhead flies. The box is also enjoyed by our friends fly fishing the Florida saltwater flays in the Keys.
The Tribute tube fly box is dedicated to the fishermen who have mentored fly fishing as a sport and also our company’s personal journey. Some of these people come from distant lands and some are a good stone’s throw away, yet turning and releasing is their style. For all of you who have taken the time to show us new tricks and keep the flame lit, this box is for you.

The Tribute tube fly box will hold 44 tube flies of varied size and head shape securely. We have added two rows of foam to provide a hold on loose hooks or a few random spey flies for the day. The foam rows provide 22 hook or fly spaces per row, 88 total for the box. This will let you be creative while loading your own box. The Irideus tube fly holes are off set in order to provide tube fly hackles room, as well as give you a good visual on your offerings. A unique option of this box is the pliable foam. We went with a partially recycled, slightly pliable foam to provide a secure grip on flies of different sizes. We had to consider some of the wild flies used on the East Coast Run Steelhead and our Alaskan efforts. Although some of the beautiful flies gave us a challenge, the cone heads and waking head tubes now have a home. It also goes the other way by not expanding, the foam will hold mini and standard Atlantic Salmon fair. The outer shell is tough and provides waterproof protection from the elements, which will please the saltwater fishermen.

This has opened a new chapter for our articulated leeches that have always flopped aimlessly or tangled with each other in compartments. The foam and hook holds will provide a straight hold on some of the more interesting flies on the beat, like your cone head or articulated patterns. It is also saltwater friendly for the flats and mangroves. Whether, you’re a diehard steelhead fisherman or an Atlantic Salmon gentleman this box will begin your life’s next tube fly journey. On the search for steelhead we cross paths with large trout on a regular basis. As the steelhead become natural feeders after the spawn we find challenging fly fishing conditions. The need to match the hatch for steelhead has lead us down the path of trophy trout tactics. There are several world class trout rivers and streams within an hour of the office. We have taken these strategies and applied them to trout only fisheries with great success taking the larger trout in the holes and targeting them. Big trout can become very slow and lazy eating bigger meals at one time to sustain themselves and also to stay under cover. We have found these big trout are meat eaters or baby trout killers for the most part. Our large streamers flies and tube flies will bring some amazing action if slow dredged through the deep runs and holes.There are days when there are no hook ups yet a few follow ups that will leave any fisher shaky handed. The new Irideus fly fishing fies for 2012 have spawned a solid group of followers on the trout scene. We are starting to see our tube flies hung in brown trout jaws and engulfed by some giant rainbows in tail water and tidewater fly fisheries. We start most days on the trophy trout hunt using large wooly buggers and articulated streamers like the Timoteo streamer or Mortal Trout Tube flies. If the water is cold we will run an 18 inch floro carbon leader to a smaller trail fly like the Mid Riff Soft Hackle or Nympho trout fry. When the water drops 8 ft in two days there may be a surprise waiting in the clearing water. This giant buck steelhead found an Irideus steelhead fly to his liking. We are claiming this to be the  biggest Steelhead in California for 2012 unless a person has a picture to compare. Check out the adipose fin and the tail on this majestic fish . He is about 20 miles from from the steelie hens up river. Very happy this guy stopped by to say hello!A thick shouldered dense buck that was released.
