One day before fly fishing the local run for steelhead we heard a salmon biologist ask, "is this your dog?"As they pulled off to do more work I yelled,"no but I think its going to be."This is the face that waited. No tags, no reports of a loss of this loving steelhead chasing boy. he has been adopted and after curing some badd butt from a diet of dead salmon he is sleeping in his own bed ready for the storm to end. He was named Stormy which fits him well. The calm before the storm made the company 1 more Queensland heeler rich. When something finds you........read between the lines and take care of it. Adopt a pet they have so much to give! Steelheading now has a new man on the steelhead spey fly fishing scene!

Steelhead are amazing creatures well beyond the backing burning runs and the prize they offer as a fly fishing gamefish. The life they lead is a tough battle of survival of the fittest. Life for part of the year in the Pacific ocean is a harsh time with 22 foot Aleutian storms churning the sea into surging place to live. Steelhead will feed on shrimp and small fish when at sea and have a way of adapting back into a natural feeding cycle in the river. It seems fitting they show up to harass the King salmon and steal the eggs they have worked so hard to protect and bring to life. These protein rich eggs turn the fish up a notch as they cycle into a diet of caddis, minnows and other aquatic treats. Steelhead flies on the coast can bring a wide array of big bright patterns that trigger the lateral line of these fish new the fresh water river system. We tend to fish tube flies and large steelhead streamers at this time. The flies will become natural as the season moves on.
