Catching summer steelhead and trout with Irideus fly fishing lines and fly fishing fly patterns is a very effective aproach to the water. Its so fun to target trout with nymph fly fishing flies or streamer fly patterns. Matching the hatch and local minnow and sculpin species leads you on the road to fly fishing success in the summer. You can do a dry fly with a nymph trailer or a double nymph set up. Its also fun to rig an Irideus streamer fly with a nymph trail fly. In California some people will even fish three flies rigged 18 inches apart. This can be a problem sometimes if you fish roles. We suggest one or two fly set ups. On occasion will run 3 flies when using minnow patterns on very slow days. It simulates a school of baitfish.

Its not allways the big fish that makes your day. Small trout steelhead and baby salmon bring us great apreciation for the water. They are the future. Treat them well and make sure to wet your hand before ever touching any fish. Not using a net is also a good handling technique.

One fun way to play for trophy trout is to fish a baby trout streamer fly pattern. If your lucky you have caught a big trout with anouther trout half way down its throat.
