Fly fishing for chrome steelhead and trying to avoid the spawning pairs offers challenge yet great rewards

We spend a great dealing of time testing our steelhead flies each month. The goal is to search for the trophy steelhead lurking in California's abundant water laden resources. Many days its the small fish that bring a smile to our face. This little chromer jumped over ten times taking drag like a much larger steelhead. This is why we love fresh chrome steelhead. They may be hard to find yet ever so worth it. Learn to love them all,  big or small.

A heavy thick Feather River California steelhead starting to show off some color. He is still in a much earlier state than the fish in the river at this time. When you land one of these trophy steelhead be very thankful. They will humble even the best fly anglers in the world. They are notorious for doing unconventional things to break you off, spit your fly or roll your line up around a snag. A great place to start your steelhead  journey is with Irideus. The 6/7 spey rod has had more time on the Feather River and Sacramento River California fly water than any other brand claiming it. The reels are backed by years of use on the fish we love. Our steelhead trout and salmon fly fishing fly collection for 2014 is not to be compared to. Our fly fishing lines and shooting heads are exclusive to our company. The fly lines and shooting heads have been tested and trued in the Chico California and surrounding blue ribbon fly waters. Its important to share what works and has for years. We may be one of the only companies still making fly boxes and products in the United States. The GreenWater fly boxes should be in every fly shop in America. They seem to have been surrounded by a sea of similar squares with foam in them. But they are not to be compared to. Made in Chico California able to withstand a truck driving over one! We do not try to be the big guy, the power company the company running under the guise of several companies as many are. We are a small company bringing ideas and products good enough to the fly fishing industry that they are copied and modeled after as most of our products are. We hope to expand our following of loyal customers that are looking for something a little more close to home when it comes to fly fishing equipment. We try very hard to provide great customer service to our friends worldwide. We thank all the fine people and fly shops that have supported us. 2014 brings you many choices for fly fishing gear. We hope you make the switch to Irideus this year. Catch and release steelhead, trout and salmon.

Indicator fly fishing for California steelhead and trout with spey and switch fly rods

TOP TIPS FROM PROS ON INDICATOR STEELHEAD FLY FISHING

The bubble will get you a frown on many western waters yet at the end of the day the numbers will turn a frown into amazement. One of the most beautifully styled steelhead spey casting indictor fly fisherman in the world can be found pictured above. Breaking new ground with a style all his own. Timothy Horner and a handful of his local waters. Be sure to check out the Irideus steelhead flies for 2013-2014 they are sure to bring you luck! The Irideus 11.6 6/7 spey and switch fly rod is an industry best. The price is what we as steelheaders feel is a top end. But lay the 6/7 down next to the industry bests then cast the rod against them. Time on the water will make a champion every time. TRUST IN IT!

One way to start out steelhead and trout fishing is with a small float or indicator bubble. These can be casted easily on the Irideus spey and switch fly rods to great distance. Run an 8 ft leader from the float using one fly or two fly nymph rigs. The novice fisherman will have a greater chance of hooking fish using the indicator fly fishing method. The Irideus 6/7 11.6 foot switch fly rod has proved to be a true champion using this approach. Standard fly rod people will also hook more light biting fish like steelhead and trout doing this.

We also will use large dry flies running a smaller nymph 18 inches off the back of the dry fly. This will bring more explosive strikes and offers a more natural approach to the water.

You will be able to cast to fish from distance spooking less fish....this is reason enough to give switch and spey fly rods a shot!

One more perfect wild Feather River wild steelhead tamed by the Irideus 11.6 spey rod using Irideus steelhead flies and an indicator set up nymph rig style with the Irideus micro swivel. Give this style a try!
