Irideus 2019 steelhead Flies are sure to make your season all it should be on the rivers of the world
We have also been using a heavier nymph instead of any split shot which most anglers also use. If they have seen it they will tend to shy away from it. This is Ava's All Star in mimics many food offerings on the river. it could be a golden stone or a minnow. They get attention and they will attract steelhead and trout to your line. We run a smaller nymph about 18 inches behind it. They most times will take the smaller nymph flailing behind the dropper fly.
Irideus Egg Holder Prince Nymph flies are a staple for us all year long. Our 2019 rendition only takes the fly to new levels of perfection. We offer this with a crimson head when they are being fished hard with egg patterns. This is a small version of the new tube fly that will be unveiled soon with several other patterns for the swing community.
Fall fly fishing would not be the same without this fly. The Irideus Upper Park Urchin was modeled after an October Caddis yet it seems to speak to large brown trout and rainbows as well as steelhead. When wet and in the current this fly is very special. If you are one of our clients we suggest you have these in your Irideus fly box. It is a trusted pattern for lead fly or fished alone on the swing.
One nice thing about Irideus flies is that they are tested and true. The hooks are top class and the quality is grade A. If you are landing agressive jack King salmon on a #12 hook its a great fly. Many trophy fish are lost to bent hooks. We can not have this and have weeded out any weak links when it comes to tinsel strength. The owner has collected hooks for decades. he knows what quality is and he delivers it .
A classic 2018 2019 Feather River Steelhead. They make up for their size with strong runs and acrobatic leaps and bounds. If you will be visiting our local water you can expect to see a few of these. Be sure to build a collection of irideus flies before you show up. We see many more visitors showing up each year only to go home frustrated. trust in our research and time on the water it will help you.
Time on the water can never be taken away from a man or woman. Make time for it the water often.
You will also find 2019 Irideus fly fishing boxes that offer exclusive designs and 100% made in the USA options. This is something we are proud to offer. No other company we know of make a fly box options in the USA. You can find the GreenWater fly boxes. We hope to see the fly fishing community make us number 1 this year for our custom designs and efforts. Please suggest the GreenWater fly box to your local fly shop.
The Irideus Lassen Fly Box is the lightest fly box in the industry yet still holds a days or weekends worth of flies in a pallet that fits in your palm. We say Own it!
The Irideus 2019 Mid Riff soft Hackle is back and re defined by a lighter body color this year. It has proved to be a top fly around the world for our clients. At home we just call it sexy. That's the nick name it has earned.
May your 2019 steelhead fly fishing season start well for you. Be organized on the water this year. Educate yourself and try to find nice people willing to share local knowledge with you. It pays to be a nice person you will find more people willing to share with you. You may even end up with a few flies. This year has been a year of change for our rivers. We hope everyone who reads this will practice catch and release. Steelhead, trout and salmon are counting on us.

Feather river and Sacramento river King Salmon run 2018 with irideus fly fishing flies
More tube flies for all salmon species cleanly held tight in the irideus Tribute tube fly box. Standard salmon fly fishers will find any conehead fly will also firt into the flex foam. It holds hooks and has 88 slits for standard flies or hooks. Its a great box worth owning.
Some clean Feather river California chrome. If you put your time in even at mid day a dram fish may take your fly. You never know unless you go.
Some basic Feather River king Salmon flies. We also will fish Irideus Kasilof Cassy Intruders which are pink. Some other hot picks would be the Mortal trout tube flies. They will hit ever so light only trying to injure or destroy the intruder or egg so you have to be ready to set that hook. if you do not keep in contact with your fly or you will miss salmon. They do not crush the fly all the time.
A big Sacramento River King that fell for black after the normal morning bite. fly fishing can be a tough game on this river. We suggest finding a good local guide to help you if you are new to the area. If you need a referal contact us we are happy to put you into good hands.
King Salmon in California and the Irideus timothy Horner American Flag tube flies are a perfect fit. When wet this fly will be seen and snapped at by fresh King Salmon. Its a worthy fly to pack into your arsenal for all salmon species. Well sockeyes may not hit this fly but thats the truth on them. Some say they will hit a shrimp style fly but its a toic we will pass on today.
Irideus Pink Intruders ready for a morning swim. Fly fishing with the love color early in the morning gets the blood pumping and all cylinders firing.
An irideus Baitfish fly that will temp kings but also may put a striper on your fly rod. Both the feather river and Sacramento river hold striper worthy of any fly casters time. last weekend we found a school of small striper. They ended up making our day. The salmon have been slow at least on the Sacramento. Seasoned guides will help you find them but the fly fishing game is slow. Aggressive schools on tiny baitfish flies can be a blast. We even hooked a few on the barbie kids rod which made for some great fun and laughs. Its about having fun so remember that. We see some stuffy folks out there at times that are missing the big picture and also referals. so have fun people!
Irideus pixie Baitfish streamers are wonders of the multi species game and will take smallmouth,King Salmon,Striper,Steelhead and trout for people who just can not pick the right fly. this is a match for the river hatch so trust in a timeless tested and true fly from Irideus.
We also carry some conventional rods to cast flies using a Carolina style rig to cover more water on big sections. It is effective and can bring hope when the fly rod is not cutting it. We also want to point people toward fishing swimbaits on conventional rods for trophy striper in the local rivers. It has been effective and has put out some giant fish. Using these large swimbaits may shock a few fly casters yet if your a well rounded angler you should educate yourself on these offerings. Check out the Morone Swimbaits and Glide baits for a well rounded selection of local baitfish and tailed offerings. You can get some information here https://moronetrophystriperswimbaits.blogspot.com/ You will find Squawfish,Sacramento Splittail,King Salmon fry,Trout,Steelhead and Kokanee swimbaits and glidebaits that match the hatch. So never give up but you may have to adapt to be a success. Check these lures out and let your friends know about them. The smaller lures are catching monster brown and rainbow trout this summer trolled behind a kayak or casted from sure. Its a good time if your willing to fish outside the fly fishing box. It does not get much closer to matching the forage fish hatch with the Morone swimbaits. You can buy the lures on this link if your interested CLICK HERE TO BUY MORONE SWIMBATS.
A beautiful striper on the Morone Squawfish Glide Bait
Fat Sacramento River smallmouth that fell for the Morone 10 inch Steelhead swimbait.

Irideus fly fishing Catch and release tips for steelhead trout salmon and other species
Irideus fly fishing Catch and release tips for steelhead trout
Those of us lucky enough to watch the life cycle of steelhead have formed a bond in catch and release methods. This will serve as a simple guide to help you enjoy the experience and preserve our sport.
If you have just started fly fishing use a rod stronger in wt than normal. People like 7wt rods for steelhead, yet an expert can pull off a 6wt rod. We will suggest an 8wt rod to start to give you some backbone to turn this powerful fish. Long battles that are not handled well can result in the death of steelhead. Fish fresh in from the ocean are extremely susceptible to this as they acclimate to fresh water. All ways wet your hands before touching any fish that will be released. Dry hands destroy the protective coating on the skin. Steelhead and trout fall victim to this and in heavily fished waters the scares are easy to see. Keep your fish facing up stream into the current, this will help keep oxygen levels high in the gills. Keep your fish in the water, this will help not to cause stress on the fish. You will also begin to appreciate a photo of a fish in full color. Catch and release methods also start before you hit the stream with gear modifications. Barbless hooks reduce impact and teach you to improve your skills. You will find barbless hooks do not loose fish we do. If a fish runs and turns and the slack causes a lost fish, then next time you will handle it better. I do not recommend beads to any novice fisherman and was even afraid to say the word. Yet through the trial and error of many generations the bead has been modified by dropping the hook 2 1/2 inches below the bead. Do not fish beads in any otherway it is unnecessary and also the cause of many steelhead mortal injuries. Learn proper stream side manor for your fellow fisherman. In today's times crowds and rude people have driven most of us deep into wilderness areas for peace. But on the days a person walks around my drift and drops a hello I feel lucky for our communication. Give space and watch before stepping into someones casting area. You will see, a little respect will get you a long way...maybe even a local fly!

Fly fishing Irideus nymph flies on natural feeding winter steelhead in California with Irideus 2018 shooting head fly lines
Fly fishing Irideus nymph flies on natural feeding winter steelhead in California with Irideus 2018 shooting head fly lines |
Fly fishing Irideus nymph flies on natural feeding winter steelhead in California with Irideus 2018 shooting head fly lines has proved to be effective again this year. We love when we are on a streamer bite but it seems by mid day the steelhead have moved on to buggy offerings. We have been developing a nymphing technique called side shoring and will be writing a more detailed entry on this with a free video to help people who enjoy nymphing strategies. In essence the heavier wt of the shooting head even when used at short distance will help you launch your flies upstream from a down stream end of a swing cast. This keeps the flies in the water longer. It takes the extra weight of a shooting head to push the full 40ft section of line up stream. You also need no back casting room. You can find a full range of single hand fly rod shooting heads for your fly rods. spey and switch rod fly fishers can find many custom shooting head flies this year to balance your spey rod quiver. 30 and 40 foot heads are available. The snake roll cast using spey rods has become popular again. Check out the custom Irideus Zen shooting heads and have fun.
The Irideus Rise waterproof flip page fly box is a wonderful nymphing and side shoring fly fishing box. It also has a wide side to hold a bunch of streamer and minnow fly patterns. This year the Irideus fly fishing fly menu is hot. We hope dedicated fly fishers around the world will seeek us out and build a collection of our flies.
The bright mid day sun can make steelhead tune into small #12 and #14 Irideus nymph fly patterns.Irideus Caddis fly, Baetis and miinow flies will fool them.
Taking time to perfect your nymphing technique with Irideusfly fishing flies is sure to make your approach to the water more effective. Some of our friends will just loop a shooting head onto the standard fly line they are fishing to get the shoring technique. down. This beautiful little steelhead fell for the Irideus American River Master fly with an Irideus Timothy Horner Local Talent Trail fly. When things get tough give nymph flies a try.
We had a cold snap after a week of warm weather. Fishing nymph flies was effective on both ends of the weather spectrum. Many of us have been exclusively fishing this style. We were using Irideus Czech nymphs all day with some solid steelhead coming to hand. We never use nets and keep wild fish in the water. Catch and release is a state of mind and also a practice we steward. Please keep steelhead in the water and treat wild fish with the utmost care.
Wishing the entire international fly fishing community the best of luck with your shooting head and nymphing techniques. We hope to outfit your future needs.
